Storm causes widespread damage in Fond du Lac County

A cold front slowly moved over the state Monday, June 23, 2025, cutting into a hot humid airmass, and that was the focal point of severe thunderstorms to affect Fond du Lac County.
The storm prediction center issued a severe thunderstorm watch at 1:15 in the afternoon and then around 5 they alerted to an area of Wisconsin, including Fond du Lac County, that they were concerned with for severe weather development.
At 5:42 pm, the first severe thunderstorm warning was issued for western Fond du Lac County. At this time a line of storms extending from near Wautoma to Portage was fast approaching the county with strong winds.
At 6:19 pm the rest of Fond du Lac County was placed under the warning as that line progressed eastward.
Every community the storms entered was soon followed by pages for fire departments to respond for wires down. Some due to tree branches being blown on them, and some were down as the poles they were attached to just snapped in half.
Just before 7 PM an estimated 70 mph wind gust at the front of the storm hit the Fond du Lac area which knocked out power for a portion of the city, toppled tree branches throughout the city, as well as caused some minor structural damage.
At one point around 4000 customers were without power according to Alliant’s website. That number was down to just under 300 as of 4:30 this morning.
Wind wasn’t the only thing causing issues. At least two calls for Fond du Lac Fire Rescue went out for houses struck by lightning.
The cold front that was responsible for the storms has stalled out over the state, and while no more severe weather is likely, it will be the cause of scattered showers in the forecast over the next few days.
