Strong storms pass through area Tuesday night

Scattered strong thunderstorms passed through the area overnight Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

A storm that passed through northern Dodge County and into Sheboygan County blew down trees and knocked out power to some locations there. The storm moved into the Lomira area around 11:40 with reports on social media saying trees were blown down and a barn was damaged near LeRoy.

Then around 2:45 a.m., another storm passed near Ripon and southern Winnebago County.

According to the Storm Prediction Center storm reports page, three different personal weather stations in the area measured winds between 59 and 68 mph.

As of 5 a.m. this morning, the Alliant Energy website showed about 500 people without power in the Winnebago, Green Lake and northwest Fond du Lac County area.

Then at 5 a.m., yet another strong storm passed over, knocking more power out in Oshkosh and producing a menacing looking shelf cloud in the Fond du Lac area that was accompanied by some gusty winds.

Here’s how the shelf cloud appeared on radar. Its the thin green line out in front of the storm. The light green line shows up on radar as the gust of wind that accompanied the cloud, picks up dust, leaves, pollen and other small debris and lofts it into the air and the radar beam reflects off the debris.

Neither of the first two storms had been warned by the National Weather Service, and the third one was warned for Calumet and Manitowoc Counties at 5:10 a.m.
