Sturgeon spearing harvest numbers dwindle with the ice conditions

Day six of sturgeon spearing season still saw a few spearers out on the ice with 30 sturgeon speared.

16 males, 12 adult females and 2 juvenile females were harvested, bringing the adult female count to 85% of the 90% trigger to halt the season.

The heaviest sturgeon speared yesterday was a 102.6-pound, 68.6-inch female near Quinney.

Ice will remain questionable Friday after temperatures again rose above freezing Thursday and Thursday night and around a .25 inch of rain fell.
