Summertime type pop-up storms bring warnings to Fond du Lac County

A couple pop up severe warned storms passed through the area Tuesday, June 16, 2026, with small hail being reported in a few of them.

The storms were associated with a compact low pressure system passing through that brought cold air aloft that set up over warm thermals of air at the surface warmed by the sun. As these parcels of air rapidly rose into the colder air above, thunderstorm updrafts with hail formed.

Green Lake, Marquette, Fond du Lac, Washington and Sheboygan Counties all were warned at one point or another for separate storms, however at this time, no reports of hail meeting severe criteria was reported. Winnebago County however, had two reports of hail reaching one inch in diameter which is the size needed for a storm to be considered severe.

More rain will fall over the area Wednesday as another low pressure system moves in. While little to no severe weather is expected here, a severe weather outbreak including possible large tornadoes will be likely farther south into Illinois.
