Swatting incident reported in Calumet County

The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a swatting incident in the Village of Harrison.

Deputies were called to a home on Winding Trail Drive shortly before seven Tuesday night after someone made a false emergency report.

The caller claimed he had been stabbed in the chest, said he had shot his wife, and claimed she was dead.

Deputies arrived and determined there was no homicide, weapons incident or other emergency at the residence.

Swatting involves making a false emergency report in an attempt to trigger a major law enforcement, fire or EMS response. Officials say those calls are dangerous because first responders have to initially treat the reported emergency as legitimate.

This incident joins a growing list of false reports lately, reporting illegal activity where nothing was found.

On Monday a swatting incident was reported in Oshkosh and on Friday, both a Mayville and Manitowoc school went into lockdown mode after reports of a weapon in the school were reported, though no threats were found.
