Teen shot and killed at Mt Horeb Middle School had a pellet gun

New information has been released in the potential school shooting that occurred last Wednesday, May 1, 2024, outside a Mt Horeb Middle school in Dane County.

A 911 call came into the communications center saying there was a teen with a long gun outside the middle school. The school went into lockdown and police arrived on scene.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation released information saying officers found the suspect and ordered him to drop the gun. He refused and aimed the gun at officers and they fired, killing him. It was learned that the weapon the 14-year-old had was a pellet gun.

Students will be returning to school today, Monday, May 6, 2024, for the first time since the incident.
