Third consecutive day of heavy rain creating widespread flooding issues in state
Mother Nature continues to have her way with Wisconsin with a third day in a row of heavy rainfall and and severe weather.
In the Fond du Lac area, some residents are having minor flooding issues as around three inches of rain has fallen, but that pales in comparison to other parts of the state.
Governor Tony Evers has declared a state of emergency as communities across the state battle record rainfall, washed-out roads, and significant river flooding
Many rivers are above their banks in northeast Wisconsin causing flooding in several towns and rural areas there.
The Wolf River in Waupaca County has flooded so bad that much of the City of New London and the whole village of Shiocton have been ordered to evacuate, as well as other areas in the county. A statement from the National Weather Service says, If you are living in the impacted area, and choose to remain in place, your safety cannot be guaranteed.
A public emergency shelter has been opened at the Washington Center Gym at 500 W. Washington St. in New London.
The Wisconsin River near Portage, in Columbia County is nearing the major flood stage of 20 feet. Its forecast to crest at 20.3 feet by late Friday or Saturday morning, a level not seen since 2010.
In the Milwaukee Area, flash flooding Wednesday night trapped cars in deep water near American Family Field following the Brewers game. Interstates 43 and 94 were both closed in spots due to flooding as was Highway 175 near the stadium.
While storms weren’t as severe as Tuesday’s, there were still some hail reports and a couple tornado warnings in far southern Wisconsin Wednesday.
The state gets a day to dry out Thursday and part of Friday, but more rain and severe weather is forecast for much of the state Friday afternoon into the evening.
