Total lunar eclipse tonight

Sky gazers will be able to witness a total lunar eclipse early Friday morning, March 14, 2025, as the moon passes through the shadow of the earth, cast by the sun.
A Lunar Eclipses occurs when all three celestial bodies line up, with the moon being on the opposite side of the earth from the sun.
The earths shadow will start to appear on the moon at 12:09 AM tonight with the total eclipse starting at 1:26 AM. At this point, the moon doesn’t go completely dark however. It appears, as many describe it, as blood red. The reason for this is because even though the moon is in the shadow of earth, sunlight hitting moisture in earths atmosphere gets scattered, or bent like light going through a prism.

The moon is just the right distance away from earth that most of the colors in the sunlight bending in the moisture, shine past the moon, but the red light bends in such a way that it reaches the moon, causing us to see the moon turn red.
The totality part of the eclipse will last about one hour with the moon coming out of earths shadow around 2:30 AM.
The moon will be fully out of the shadow at 3:47 AM.
There are some clouds forecast to be in the sky tonight, but with partly cloudy conditions, you should have plenty of opportunities to see at least part of the eclipse as it happens.
