Traffic Stop Turns Into Pursuit, One Man Arrested
A Friday afternoon traffic stop turned into a pursuit and ended with an arrest. FDL County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted what started out as a somewhat routine traffic stop for a speeding violation. The incident occurred at 4:32 p.m., on CTH D near Brown Rd. in the Town of Fond du Lac.
During the traffic stop, the deputy detected an odor of drugs and the operator was requested to exit the vehicle. The operator failed to comply and drove off at a high rate of speed. The deputy gave pursuit and a brief high-speed pursuit occurred. The suspect continued north on CTH D, running a red light at the intersection of CTH D and Rolling Meadows Drive. The operator lost control in the intersection and traveled into the south ditch, coming to rest in the parking lot area of the Radisson Hotel. The operator was taken into custody without incident.
The driver of the vehicle, a 29 year-old Illinois man, was in possession of approximately ½ lb. of suspected cocaine and approximately 1 lb. of suspected ecstasy. He is being held at the Fond du Lac County jail on charges of eluding, OWI 1st offense, and drug possession with intent to deliver.
The pursuit lasted less than a mile. There were no injuries or property damage reported. The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.
