Two in custody in Winnebago County after traffic stop and short manhunt

Winnebago County Officials caught a man who ran from a traffic stop in the City of Oshkosh Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

The incident started when Oshkosh Police pulled over a vehicle on South Park Avenue in Oshkosh around 1 PM yesterday. The driver was found to have a warrant, and when placed under arrest, the passenger in the vehicle got in the drivers seat and fled south.

Another officer saw the vehicle continue south on Highway 44 past I-41 but due to the reckless manner they were driving, the officer chose not to pursue the vehicle.

A short time later an officer spotted a man matching the description of the fleeing man running near 44 and County FF. The man ran into a nearby barn and officers were able to take him into custody. It’s unknown why the man ran from the traffic stop.
