Two Weekend Snowmobile Incidences May Have Stemmed From Driving While Intoxicated

Alcohol may have contributed to two snowmobile incidences this weekend in Fond du Lac County.

On Saturday just before 3 PM, The Fond du Lac County Communication Center received a call that a snowmobile had broke through the ice on Lake Winnebago between the lighthouse and yacht club just off of Lakeside Park.

Initial reports were that the driver and snowmobile were in the water but bystanders were able to throw the man a line and pull him out.

The driver was waiting at the Fond du Lac Yacht Club when Fond du Lac paramedics arrived.

The driver of the snowmobile was identified as a 31 year old male from Fond du Lac and he was arrested by deputies for suspicion of operating a snowmobile under the influence.

The second incident occurred Saturday night around 6:20 PM when the communication center received a 911 call of a snowmobile crash that occurred on County Highway HHH near County Highway G in the Township of Calumet.

Witnesses reported seeing a man on a snowmobile attempt to cross County Road HHH on a snowmobile trail and lose control.

The snowmobile struck the road at the road crossing causing the snowmobile to stop and the man flew over his handlebars landing on the road.

He received serious injuries and was flown from the crash location by Thedastar helicopter.

The 69 year old man from Menasha and he was also arrested for operating a snowmobile under the influence.
