Updated story of Washington County barn fire
An update to a story we broke Monday morning, June 22, 2026, regarding the barn fire in Washington County…
At about 4:45 a.m., a passerby contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center to report a barn fire at 7955 Trading Post Trail in the Town of Farmington. The caller reported smoke and flames coming from the east side of the barn, along with an electrical buzzing sound. The caller also alerted the residents, who began checking on their cattle.
The Fillmore Fire Department was dispatched and quickly upgraded the incident to a Box Alarm, bringing in mutual aid from surrounding departments. The call would eventually go to a 3rd alarm for trucks and manpower and a 4th alarm for water trucks. This brought in units from 14 departments from Washington, Sheboygan and Ozaukee Counties.
Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were first on the scene and found the structure fully engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke throughout the area.
Fire crews were assisted by Elbe Land and Water Management, which utilized heavy equipment to remove a large quantity of stored straw and assist with debris removal from the collapsed structure.
The barn, which included a milking parlor, was declared a total loss. Damage is estimated to exceed $1 million. The fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature, and none of the dairy cattle on the property were harmed.
