UW-Oshkosh Chancellor on Name Changes for Three Campuses

The UW System Board of Regents this month approved a name
and brand change for the three campuses that make up UW-Oshkosh, after the main
campus of UW-Oshkosh along with UW-Fond du Lac and UW-Fox Valley combined to
form one university last year. The change means the campus in Fond du Lac is
now known as the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Fond du Lac Campus.
UW-Oshkosh Chancellor Andy Leavitt says their path to the final name change
began with a market study. “Over a thousand people participated in the market
study, and we learned a lot,” Leavitt said. “We learned a lot about what makes
the university and these campuses attractive to potential students, but also we
learned the incredible pride that each one of the locales have in their campus,
and certainly Fond du Lac is a great example of that – there’s great civic
pride in this campus.”

In addition to the Fond du Lac campus, the renaming
includes the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Oshkosh Campus and the University
of Wisconsin Oshkosh-Fox Valley Campus. Leavitt says the decision was made with
“great care”, and received approval from both the Board of Regents and County
Executives from throughout the area, including Fond du Lac County Executive
Allen Buechel. The regents also approved a new “brand” for the university –
which will be known as “UWO”.
