UW System proposes four-year tuition pledge

The Universities of Wisconsin System is proposing a four-year tuition pledge aimed at giving students more predictable college costs. Under the plan, tuition would be frozen for two years beginning in the fall of 2027, with future increases capped at the rate of inflation. University leaders say the proposal depends on receiving $190 million in additional state funding through the 2027-29 biennial budget. The system is also seeking a program that would provide tuition-free education for some students from middle-income families in exchange for internships, apprenticeships, or other career-focused work experience.
