Vehicle fire closes part of I-41 in Fond du Lac County
Part of I-41 was closed for about an hour Thursday, June 18, 2026, because of a vehicle fire.
Around 2:30 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received calls reporting an SUV was on fire on the southbound shoulder of the highway, just north of Highway B.
The Oakfield Fire Department was dispatched to the scene along with Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies and Troopers with the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Upon arrival, crews found the front of the vehicle engulfed in flames with the SUV’s interior starting on fire. The driver and lone occupant was able to safely evacuate the vehicle.
The southbound side of the highway was shut down for about an hour while crews worked the scene. Traffic was rerouted off the exit at Highway B but was able to get back on the highway using the onramp as the fire was in-between the ramps.
