Video Shows State Trooper’s Close Call

Dashcam video from a Wisconsin State Trooper’s cruiser shows why there’s a law requiring drivers to move over when they see a law enforcement officer or emergency vehicle operating on the side of the highway. The state’s Department of Transportation posted the 30 second video on YouTube showing State Trooper Jim Reese walking back to his car from a motorist he stopped on I-43 south of Sheboygan last Friday morning. The trooper steps back and away from the squad just as it’s clipped by a semi. He wasn’t hurt in the accident. Thirty-nine-year-old David Christian of Hoffman Estates, Illinois was driving the truck. He was cited for inattentive driving and failure to change lane for an emergency vehicle. YouTube video.
