Washington County farmhouse damaged by fire

A house in Washington County sustained damage after fire broke out in the upper floors when no one was home Sunday night, October 13, 2024.
At 7:41 PM a passerby reported the fire in a farmhouse on Trading Post Trail just south of County Highway A, about 5 miles northeast of West Bend. Upon arrival, fire was seen coming from the attic and roof area.
A MABAS call went out bringing in mutual aid from seven other area fire departments. Firefighters were able to access the attic area through windows and managed to contain the fire to the attic and second story of the house, though the reminder of the house did suffer smoke and water damage.
Initial investigation showed the homeowners had a fire in a fireplace earlier in the day, and the fire appears to have started in the upper portion of the chimney.
