Waterfowl populations remain consistent in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has announced their numbers from their annual spring survey of breeding waterfowl.
According to the department, the survey indicated stable population numbers and habitat conditions for the migratory birds.
Surveyors estimated the state’s 2025 breeding duck population at 7% higher than the 2024 estimate.
Specifically The 2025 mallard breeding population estimate is 2% higher than 2024 while the Wood duck populations decreased 1.8% from last year.
The survey showed the Canada Goose population estimate is 8% lower than last year, yet it remains significantly higher than the long-term average.
