Waupun House Fire Draws Heavy Response

About 50 fire fighters from area fire departments spent the better portion of the early morning hours battling a house fire in the City of Waupun.

Just after 1:30 AM, Friday, October 14, a Waupun Police officer noticed what appeared to be a furnace on fire in the basement of a house in the 200 block of Rounsville Street.

Waupun Fire Department was paged to respond and by the time trucks got on scene, the flames were already coming out of the first floor windows.

The fire response was quickly upgraded to a MABAS first level which brought in fire departments from Oakfield, Brandon/Fairwater, City of Fond du Lac, Beaver Dam and Alto.

A short time later the fire was upgraded to the second alarm for engines, requesting a response for trucks from Fox Lake, Beaver Dam and City of Fond du Lac.

Because some departments weren’t able to respond, Burnet and Kekoskee Fire Departments responded.

Around 4 AM the Waupun Fire Department requested the Red Cross to assist the home owners and the bring water for the estimated 50-55 firefighters on the scene.

It is unknown exactly how the fire started or if there were any injuries. KFIZ will update the story as details become available.
