Weather hampers Christmas travelers return home

Slippery roads and foggy conditions are being partially blamed for a number of vehicle crashes in the area.

Thursday, December 26, 2024, just before 7 AM, a crash occurred on Highway 151 over Highway 26 north of Waupun. Officers on scene said the overpass was icy at the time of the crash.

Around noon Thursday, a semi and car crashed in Sheboygan County sending the car overturning into a ditch. Three people in the car were trapped and injured in that crash.

Thursday evening, the first of two crashes happened on Highway 67 just west of River Road. There, a single vehicle crash happened in dense fog conditions. A second single vehicle crash happened near the same area Friday morning with the car overturning and trapping the driver. Campbellsport fire department was called to the scene to extricate the man and Campbellsport Ambulance transported him to Froedtert Hospital in West Bend.

And a single vehicle crash in Winnebago County near Winchester happened Thursday night just before 7 PM injuring a person there. First responders again stated the roads were slippery and the area had dense fog.

We weren’t the only area being affected by the fog however. According to the National Weather Service, a dense fog advisory extends from northern Minnesota, all the way down to the Dallas – Ft Worth area where more than 400 flights were canceled Thursday due to storms and fog, sending a ripple effect throughout the country. In north east Wisconsin 10 flights were canceled with a arrivals at Green Bay or Appleton airports and each airport reported numerous cancelations and delays of their own due to the weather.
