Western Wildfires Affect Local Weather Thursday And Friday

If you thought the moon looked a little reddish last night, you weren’t imagining things.
Smoke from wildfires in western states has been transported to our area by upper level southwest winds.
According to the National Interagency Fire Center’s website, as of yesterday, Seventy-one large fires
have burned 500,000 acres in states such as Idaho, Oregon, Texas, Utah and California as well as others.
Critical windy conditions are forecast for parts of the areas affected which will cause the fires to continue, but changes in upper level winds will push the smoke out of our area later today and into tonight.
Until that happens though, you can expect to see hazy skies during the day and vivid sunrises and sunsets as well as the reddish hue to the moon which is one day away from full tonight.
No health advisories are in effect due to the smoke in the area.
