WIAA Cancels All Remaining Winter Tournament Games
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA)
has decided to cancel all remaining games of the Girls State Basketball
Tournament and the boys sectional finals, along with the boys’ State Tournament
next week, in response to concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus, or
COVID-19.
The WIAA said in a press release late Thursday night that
they “regrets the lost opportunity for teams and players that have worked to
achieve their goals, and the communities that have supported them throughout
the year.”
The girls’ State Semifinals opened play on Thursday at
the Resch Center in Green Bay with limited fan attendance allowed. A similar
plan was in place for the boys’ tournament, which was set for next week (March
19th-21st), until the WIAA was informed Thursday that the
Kohl Center would not be available for the state tournament.
The release says tickets for both the boys and girls
tournaments will be refunded in full. People who do not see a refund in their
account within two weeks of the tournament should contact the WIAA offices. Any
tickets purchased at school will be refunded by the school.
