WIAA Regional Wrestling Results – 2/15/2020
High School Wrestling – WIAA Regionals:
Division One Regional – At Slinger HS:
Fond du Lac finished in seventh place as a team at the Slinger Regional, scoring 104 team points. The Cardinals had one wrestler win a Regional Championship – Josiah Streblow at 160 pounds – to qualify for sectionals. Also earning a trip to sectionals for Fondy were Isaac Ortegon (145 pounds – 2nd place), Joe Schmitz (285 pounds – 2nd place), Nick Waldo (182 pounds – fourth place) and Tristan Lakey (138 pounds – fourth place). Those qualifiers will take the mat at the Oshkosh North sectional next weekend.
Division Two Regional – at North Fond du Lac HS:
Lomira won the Regional Championship as a team, scoring 214 team points. The Lions will advance to the Team Sectional hosted by North Fond du Lac on Tuesday.
The Lions had two wrestlers win individual Regional Championships, Alex Gundrum at 138 pounds and Adam Sauer at 145 pounds. Both will advance to sectionals hosted at Lomira HS next weekend. Also qualifying for sectionals from Lomira are Alex Faber (106 pounds), Owen Casper (160 pounds), Hunter Feucht (170 pounds), Abe Helsell (195 pounds) and Jared Neill (285 pounds).
North Fond du Lac/St. Mary’s Springs placed second at the regional, scoring 167.5 team points.
The Oriole/Ledger team had two wrestlers win Regional Championships – Andrew Forsythe at 152 pounds and Avery Hull at 285 pounds. Both advance to sectionals next weekend. Also qualifying for sectionals from NFDL/SMSA were Lane Fritch (182 pounds) and Marcus Orlandoni (220 pounds).
Campbellsport placed third with 157 team points.
The Cougars had two wrestlers win Regional Championships – Drake Mullenbach (113 pounds) and Roman Skorupa (126 pounds) – both advance to sectionals next weekend. Also qualifying for sectionals from Campbellsport are Ostin Blanchard (120 pounds) and Devyn Urban (152 pounds).
Berlin placed fourth with 149 team points. The Indians had three wrestlers win Regional Championships and advance to sectionals – Preston Morgan (160 pounds), Brady Wagner (170 pounds) and C.J. Kurczek (195 pounds).
Waupun placed fifth with 137.5 team points. The Warriors had two wrestlers win Regional Championships and advance to sectionals – Caiden DeGroff (120 pounds) and Isaac Glewen (132 pounds). Also qualifying for sectionals from Waupun were Easton Hull (113 pounds) and Anthony Nighbor (138 pounds).
Omro placed sixth with 126 team points. The Foxes had two wrestlers win Regional Championships and qualify for sectionals – Bryce Crowley (106 pounds) and Kyle Dietzen (220 pounds). Also qualifying for sectionals from Omro were Kaden Besaw (126 pounds) and Jacob Beulen (132 pounds).
Ripon placed seventh with 92 team points. The Tigers had one wrestler win a Regional Championship and advance to sectionals – Brady Kissinger (182 pounds). Also qualifying for sectionals from Ripon was Ethan Zache at 145 pounds).
Division Two Regional – at Kiel HS:
Kiel won the Regional Championship as a team, scoring 260 team points. The Raiders advance to the Team Sectional hosted by North Fond du Lac on Tuesday.
The Raiders had five wrestlers win Regional Championships and advance to sectionals next weekend. They include Max Schaefer (113 pounds), Andrew Schad (120 pounds), Joah Lund (132 pounds), Isaac Vandermeer (195 pounds) and Jason Klauk (220 pounds). Also qualifying for sectionals from Kiel were Caitlin Meyer (106 pounds), Connor Faust (145 pounds), Alex Kleinhans (160 pounds) and Cole Pence (170 pounds).
Chilton/Hilbert placed second, scoring 254 team points. Chilton/Hilbert had six wrestlers win Regional Championships and advance to sectionals, including Joe Boehnlein (126 pounds), Maverik Ott (138 pounds), Devin Aull (145 pounds), Dylan Anhalt (152 pounds), Gaven Lisowe (160 pounds) and Trent Breckheimer (170 pounds).
Also qualifying for sectionals from Chilton/Hilbert were Phoenix Ladd (132 pounds), Kaiden Mikalowsky (182 pounds) and Reed Breckheimer (195 pounds).
New Holstein placed sixth, scoring 95 team points. The Huskies did not have any wrestlers qualify for sectionals.
Division Two Regional – at Port Washington HS:
Kewaskum placed second in the team standings, scoring 151.5 team points. The Indians had two wrestlers win Regional Championships and qualify for sectionals – Braeden Scoles (145 pounds) and Braden Maertz (152 pounds). Also qualifying for sectionals from Kewaskum were Josh Vogt (126 pounds), Mason Pomeroy (138 pounds), Kannon Muckerheide (182 pounds) and Sam Gauthier (285 pounds).
Mayville placed sixth in the team standings with 42 team points. Zane Vetter was the only Cardinals’ wrestler to qualify for sectionals, with a 2nd place finish at 170 pounds.
Division Three Regional – at Markesan HS:
Laconia placed second in the team standings at the Markesan Regional, scoring 169 team points. The Spartans had two wrestlers win Regional Championships and qualify for sectionals – Colton Lovejoy (126 pounds) and Tyler Lovejoy (160 pounds). Also qualifying for sectionals from Laconia were Ted Holdmann (132 pounds), Chas Glewen (145 pounds) and Brodey Schroeder (152 pounds).
Oakfield placed fourth in the team standings, scoring 121 team points. The Oaks had two wrestlers advance to sectionals – Brock Boelk (126 pounds) and Austin Gitter (285 pounds). Both Boelk and Gitter placed second in their weight class.
Winnebago Lutheran placed fifth in the team standings, scoring 105 team points. The Vikings had two wrestlers advance to sectionals – Carson Fulton (120 pounds) and Terry Guell (170 pounds). Both Fulton and Guell placed second in their weight class.
Division Three Regional – at Random Lake HS:
St. Lawrence Seminary placed fourth in the team standings, scoring 134 points. The Hilltoppers had one wrestler advance to sectionals, Osvaldo Gonzalez at 285 pounds.
