Winter Storm Continues To Hamper Area Travel

Mother nature continues her grip on the area today, Friday, December 23, 2022, with strong winds blowing the snow that fell yesterday and bitter cold.

A peak wind gust of 39 mph was measured at the Fond du Lac County Airport this morning at 4 AM and again at 6, with winds forecasted to increase slightly during the day today as the low pressure that brought the snow, intensifies to our east.

An area of light snow will overspread the area later today, adding to the blowing and drifting snow already in place.

Travel on area roads will continue to be a problem today with reduced visibility and drifting.

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office police logs, they handled 24 crashes, cars in the ditch and disabled vehicles yesterday with the worst being an injury crash where a vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree near the intersection of County W and County T around 2:15 PM.

The lone occupant of the vehicle complained of neck pain as a result of the crash.

It is unknown if they were transported to the hospital or not.

The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office says that County Highway A between K and Hwy 44 will be closed for much of the day due to what they are calling a snow emergency.

This stretch of road is just west of the Fond du Lac County line near Ripon and Fairwater.

They are reporting that they have several vehicles on that stretch of road buried in snow.

A statement from the sheriff’s office says “You are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads today. If you do have to venture out, drive slow and drive safe.”
