Work underway on Main and Johnson mosaic removal
Work has begun on removing the lighthouse mosaic at the center of the intersection of Main and Johnson Streets this morning.
The mosaic, which is made out of individual bricks, has deteriorated over the 23 years it has been in place. The mosaic was installed when Johnson Street was widened and the bridge was installed going over the Fond du Lac River and railroad tracks in 2001.
The bricks will be replaced with concrete to match the rest of the intersection. Those traveling through the intersection can still do so using the right lanes, but left turn lanes as well as left through lanes are closed. The construction is expected to last into Thursday of this week.
