Deadly Crash Investigation

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened Monday night, April 8, 2024, north of Waupun.

Just before 10 PM an officer came upon the crash on State Highway 26 near Cattaraugus Road and found that a vehicle driven by a 75-year-old woman from Ripon had run out of gas and was stranded in the lane of traffic when it was struck by another vehicle.

The striking vehicle, driven by a 73-year-old woman from McFarland, pushed the stranded vehicle into the 75-year-old who was standing in front of it, knocking her to the side of the road. The striking vehicle then came to rest on the woman trapping her.

The officer, along with another officer now on scene, were able to lift the front of the striking vehicle, freeing the woman from underneath it and immediately began life saving measures.

Flight for Life Medical Helicopter transported the woman to Froedtert Hospital Milwaukee where she was later pronounced deceased. The 73-year-old Mcfarland woman was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.

Also responding to the scene was Waupun Fire Department, Lifestar EMS and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

State Highway 26 was shut down between County Highway TC and Highway 151 for about two and a half hours while crews worked the scene.
