15 vehicles involved in chain reaction crashes Thursday in Sheboygan County

Foggy conditions are blamed as being partially responsible for 15 vehicles crashing in three separate crashes related to each other in Sheboygan County Thursday morning, August 7, 2025.

Just after 7:30 a.m., calls started coming in reporting a crash on Highway 23 eastbound, in the area of Sunset Road in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. Visibility at the time in this area was less than 1/10 mile due to heavy morning fog.

Investigation into this crash showed a 79-year-old woman from Sheboygan was originally traveling west on 23 when she made a U-turn at Sunset Rd. in front of a 19-year-old man from Sheboygan who was driving east on 23.

Because of this crash, both vehicles became disabled in the lanes of travel, causing a chain reaction collision of five additional vehicles.

A 22-year-old Plymouth man was ultimately transported to Froedtert Hospital in Waukesha with life threatening injuries. A 37-year-old female from Glenbeulah was transported to Aurora hospital with serious injuries. Two juvenile passengers in her vehicle were transported with minor injuries to Aurora Sheboygan.

The 79-year-old driver will be cited for failure to yield right of way causing injury.

While traffic was backed up because of the initial crash, a separate two vehicle crash west of this scene happened with no injuries.

Then another eight vehicle crash was reported on 23 east bound, west of this second crash, also in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. Two people were transported with minor injuries from that scene to Saint Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan.

Highway 23 east of Highway 57 was closed for four and a half hours while crews worked the scene.
