17-year-old Arrested for Making Terrorist Threats on Social Media

A 17-year-old from Fond du Lac has been arrested for
making threats on social media directed towards Fond du Lac High School.

Police and officials with the Fond du Lac School District
became aware of a potential threat toward the High School that had been posted
in the early evening hours of Thursday, after classes had been dismissed for
the day. Investigators say that specific threat was found not to be credible.

A news release says that later on Thursday evening,
Police and school officials were made aware of another, separate threat made on
social media. Investigators found that the threats in this incident stemmed
from an altercation between students in the commons as school was being
dismissed for the day.

The threats reportedly made by the 17-year-old male included
a picture of a gun and a reference to “shooting up the school.” The teen was
arrested for making Terroristic Threats and is currently being held in the Fond
du Lac County Jail awaiting formal charges.

Police say in the wake of officer-involved shootings in
Wisconsin this week that a number of possible school shooting threats have been
circulating throughout northeast Wisconsin. They are asking parents and
guardians to talk with their kids about the seriousness of making such threats,
and to encourage them to report any threatening messages to school staff or to
the police.
