71-Year-Old Woman Killed In Hit-And-Run In Door County
A 71-year-old Sturgeon Bay woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday according to the Door County Sheriff’s Office.
The department was notified of the crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian on County Highway BB west of Old Highway Road in the town of Sevastopol.
Officers found the victim had been struck by an SUV traveling west on County BB.
The Sheriff’s Office says the driver continued west, crossed the eastbound lane and entered a south ditch.
The vehicle struck a section of orchard fencing and came to rest.
The Sheriff’s Office says the driver ran off but after a brief chase, the 43-year-old Sturgeon Bay resident
was taken into custody.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Door County Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
The highway was closed for about six hours for crash reconstruction.
Assisting the Door County Sheriff’s Office were the Door County Sturgeon Bay Fire Department and Sturgeon Bay Police Department
The Wisconsin State Patrol Crash Reconstruction team also helped with the investigation.
