Area Alliant Energy workers answer the call for assistance in northern Illinois after tornadoes leave over 400,000 without power
Dozens of Alliant Energy workers have returned home this weekend after helping a peer utility company recover from storms down in Illinois.
ComEd, an energy company serving northern Illinois, recently requested additional resources to help restore power after at least 25 confirmed tornadoes hit Chicago and surrounding areas last week. At one point, ComEd had approximately 430,000 customers without power.
71 Alliant Energy employees from across Wisconsin and Iowa answered the call for assistance and went to help — including crews from Fond du Lac.
Mutual assistance refers to the voluntary partnerships companies have with other energy providers in the region. During major restoration events, these partnerships enable energy companies to bring in additional workers and equipment as needed to safely restore power for all affected customers.
