Mishaps were few in 2024 AirVenture

Considering the amount of aircraft in the area for the EAA AirVenture fly-in, very few mishaps were reported this year.

There was a fatal crash opening day on Monday, July 22, 2024, when a pilot and his passenger were killed as they made their approach to land at the Oshkosh airport.

On Saturday, officials in Dodge County reported a plane needed to make an emergency landing in a field between Horicon and Mayville.

Just before 8:30 Saturday morning, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of a plane that was flying low and sounded like it was having engine issues. A short time later it was reported that the plane had landed in a farm field. A plane that was flying with the distressed plane also landed in the field to make sure the occupants of the plane were ok. Both planes were on their way back to Georgia after leaving EAA that morning.

In 2023, 4 people were killed on or near the EAA grounds in 2 separate crashes and 3 other incidents were reported without any injuries.
