Woman charged with first degree reckless homicide in inmates death

A 37-year-old Madison Woman has been arrested in Dodge County charged with First Degree Reckless Homicide.

Janelle Hill was taken into custody Thursday, September 20, 2024, for the death of an inmate at Waupun Correctional Institution back in June of 2022. According to police, the inmate died from a drug overdose after latex balloons found during an autopsy inside the inmate were recovered that contained a suspected mixture of cocaine and fentanyl.

The balloons were delivered to the victim from Hill the day before his death during a visit.

The balloons are believed to have become compromised while in the victim’s body causing his death from drug toxicity.

Hill’s preliminary hearing is set for October 24th.
