16-year-old crashes into school bus near Fond du Lac

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a car vs school bus crash on Highway 23 Monday, September 23, 2024.

At approximately 7:18 AM, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call advising of the crash on 23 just west of Esterbrook Road, just west of the City of Fond du Lac. Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department, and Fond du Lac Fire / Rescue responded to the scene.

Investigation into the crash shows the bus was stopped to pick up a child, and with all the caution lights activated, was struck from behind by a 16-year-old Ripon man. According to police, the force of the crash wedged the front of the car under the back of the school bus.

There was only one child and the driver on the bus and the car only had the driver in it. No injuries were reported but fluid leaking from the car needed to be tended to by fire officials.

The westbound lanes of State Highway 23 were closed while crews worked the scene and the 16-year-old was cited for causing the crash.
