Man attempts to elude law enforcement in stolen vehicle… driving 5 mph

A North Fond du Lac man is in the Fond du Lac County jail today, Friday, November 1, 2024, after trying to elude law enforcement in a stolen vehicle……. at 5 mph.

The situation started with a call from a local car rental company saying a car that was rented had not been returned and they were considering it stolen. Local law enforcement were familiar with the name of the person that rented the vehicle and went to his North Fond du Lac home to retrieve the vehicle and apprehend him, but he wasn’t there.

The rental company was able to get the vehicle’s location with an onboard GPS and a City of Fond du Lac Police Officer located the vehicle being driven south out of the City on Highway V. Because of the suspects past threats against law enforcement, the officer waited for back-up before initiating a traffic stop. Once other officers arrived and activated their emergency lights and sirens, the suspect pulled to the shoulder and proceeded at about 5 mph, ignoring their demands to pull over.

At one point the driver even called 911 and said he didn’t think the officers had a valid reason to pull him over. After about a mile, the man pulled out into a farm field and officers made the decision to box the vehicle in to get it to stop. The man was taken into custody at that point with no other issues.

The 32-year-old is being held on two counts of felony bail jumping and was out on bond for two felony cases in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court, which included charges of fleeing/eluding and threats to law enforcement, as well as disorderly conduct, possession of THC, resisting/obstructing, and bail jumping.

The rental vehicle and several squad cars were reported damaged in the incident.
