Fond du Lac Police Department announce newest Detective

City of Fond du Lac Chief of Police Aaron Goldstein has announced the promotion of Officer Trenton Smith to the rank of Detective effective February 10, 2025.

Detective Smith has been a member of the City of Fond du Lac Police Department since 2014. Detective Smith has 14 years plus of military and policing experience including two tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Over the course of his 10-year career with the Fond du Lac Police Department, Detective Smith served the Department as a SWAT Tactical Team Operator, Field Training Officer, Handgun Instructor, Rifle Instructor, and Department Armorer.

Detective Smith is a decorated member of the Fond du Lac Police Department and United States Marine Corps. As a Police Officer, he received a 2022 Life Saving Award and 2023 Distinguished Service Award. In the USMC, he was awarded two Certificates of Commendation for obtaining two high value targets and terrorist cells while serving in Iraq which saved the lives of many Marines and for finding multiple weapons and ordinance caches. He also received the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation for achievements while deployed in Afghanistan.

Detective Smith holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and was the recipient of the Kyle Morrison Scholarship (fallen Marine) and Former Agents of FBI Scholarship.

Detective Smith will be assigned to the Special Services Division where he will serve as a member of the Detective Bureau.
