720 acres burn in Green Lake County wildland fire

Around a dozen fire departments as well as Wisconsin DNR fire crews responded to a large vegetation fire Monday, March 17, 2025, in northwest Green Lake County.

The fire, which was first reported around 4:30 PM, burned about 720 acres of private land as well as part of the White River Marsh State Wildlife Area.

Initially, two residences had to be evacuated, with a total of six structures threatened, but fire crews were able to keep fire from reaching them. The fire was brought under control by early Monday night as crews continued to find and extinguish hot spots.

According to the DNR outdoor fire danger map, Green Lake is one of six counties that are in the very high risk category for vegetation fires. Fond du Lac and Winnebago are also included in this category.
While dry weather will persist through Tuesday, there is slight relief in sight as an area of rain is forecast over the area Wednesday, turning to snow Wednesday night.
