Scam Texts Offer Amazon Refunds

Scammers pretending to be Amazon are sending texts to consumers claiming there’s a problem with a recent purchase they made, and they are eligible for a refund.
The texts claim a “routine quality inspection” conducted by Amazon found that an item the consumer recently purchased didn’t meet the company’s standards, has been recalled, or faces another problem. They state consumers don’t even need to return the item – getting their money back is as simple as clicking a link and filling out their information. But the link leads to a fake website meant to collect consumers’ information as part of a phishing scam. This could put consumers at risk of having their money or identity stolen.
Consumers should do the following if they receive a text matching this description:
· Remember that Amazon does not send unsolicited texts offering refunds.
· Avoid clicking links in an unsolicited message, and don’t respond directly to the message.
· Contact Amazon using publicly available, verified contact information from the company’s official website or app.
Check their Amazon account. By logging in through the Amazon website or app and verify whether a recall exists on anything they previously ordered.
· Ignore, report, and delete the text message. By reporting the text as junk or spam, consumers can help protect other consumers from the same scam.
