Lead pipes being replaced around city

The City of Fond du Lac has announced that it’s hired utility contractor, Five Star Energy, to begin private lead service line replacements in select areas of the City.

Lead service lines are pipes that carry water from the main water line in the street to individual buildings, and can be a significant source of lead contamination in drinking water. These lines were commonly installed before 1986 when lead pipes were banned. They say replacing these lead service lines helps ensure access to cleaner, safer drinking water.

The following areas of the City are currently undergoing lead service line replacement:

  • 100 Block of E Arndt St
  • 300-400 Block of N Park Ave
  • 100 Block of E Bank St
  • 200-300 Block of Amory St
  • 100 Block of E Cotton St
Impacted households should have received a notice either in person or via a door hanger flyer on Friday, that the work was going to be done.

The city says more lead service line replacements in other areas of Fond du Lac will be announced prior to Monday, August 25.
