City of Fond du Lac – Weekly Construction Update

The City of Fond du Lac is providing a weekly update on construction projects located within the corporate boundary. The Weekly Construction Updates and Construction Map are posted on the City’s Website at www.fdl.wi.gov.

Promen Drive Bridge Replacement

Schedule: June 16 through November 7

Description: In partnership with the WI Department of Transportation the project includes replacing the existing bridge structure and approaches.

September 29 to October 3: Crews completed the bridge deck pour and the grading for the roadway at the west side of the bridge. The contractor will form and pour bridge parapets on the north and south sides of the bridge. The cut-stone boulder and riprap installations will continue.

Traffic Impacts: Promen Drive Bridge will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic within Lakeside Park.

Cottage Avenue – E. Division Street to Maple Avenue

Schedule: April through October

Description: The project includes gas main and service relocations, reconstruction of sanitary sewer and laterals, storm sewer and laterals, water main and laterals, roadway, sidewalk and approaches, street lighting and restoration/landscaping.

September 29 to October 3: The utility contractor will work on water main at Maple Ave early in the week, then begin storm sewer main installation between Merrill Ave and Division St.

Traffic Impacts: Cottage Avenue is closed to traffic from E. Division Street to Maple Avenue. Residents, business owners, and customers may access properties past “ROAD CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC” signs. It is illegal to drive past a “ROAD CLOSED” sign or to move any construction barricades.

Oaklawn Avenue – E. Division Street to E. Merrill Avenue

Schedule: April through October

Description: The project includes gas main and service relocations, reconstruction of sanitary sewer and laterals, storm sewer and laterals, water main and laterals, roadway, sidewalk and approaches, street lighting and restoration/landscaping.

September 29 to October 3: No Work anticipated.

Traffic Impacts: Oaklawn Ave remains open to traffic.

E. Merrill Avenue – Cottage Avenue to DeNeveu Creek

Schedule: April through October

Description: The project includes gas main and service relocations, reconstruction of sanitary sewer and laterals, storm sewer and laterals, water main and laterals, roadway, sidewalk and approaches, street lighting and restoration/landscaping.

September 29 to October 3: Utility contractor will finish water main installation early in the week.

Traffic Impacts: E. Merrill Avenue is closed to traffic from Cottage Avenue to DeNeveu Creek. Residents, business owners, and customers may access properties past “ROAD CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC” signs. It is illegal to drive past a “ROAD CLOSED” sign or to move any construction barricades. Parking is not permitted on the street within the construction zone during working hours.

FOND DU LAC COUNTY

WIS 49 Resurfacing

Location/limits: Brandon to Ripon, Fond Du Lac County

Length: 8.3 miles

Schedule: September 2, 2025, to late October 2025

Cost: $2.1 million

Description of work: Project will consist of milling of existing asphaltic surface, paved shoulder widening, new asphaltic surface, gravel shoulders, and new pavement markings. There also will be new curb ramps, and curb and gutter replacement within the intersection of WIS 49 and Ringstad Drive in the city of Ripon. New centerline and shoulder rumble strips will also be placed along WIS 49 within the project, after the new asphalt surface is paved.

September 22 to September 26 Crews continued paving surface layer of WIS 49 from Brandon to Ripon. Pavement markings were also placed this week.

September 29 to October 3: Gravel shoulders will be placed this week. Crews will also be working on installing centerline and shoulder rumble strips along WIS 49

Traffic impacts: WIS 49 will remain open during work. Crews will use lane closures and daytime flagging operation during construction. The roadway will be restored to normal two-way traffic for overnight and weekend hours. The traveling public should use caution and reduce speeds when traveling through the work zone. They should also expect slight delays during daytime working hours.

FOND DU LAC AND WINNEBAGO COUNTIES

I-41 Resurfacing

Location/limits: County D (Military Road) in Fond du Lac County to WIS 26 in Winnebago County

Length: 14.15 miles

Schedule: October 21, 2024, to late October 2025

Cost: $26 million

Description of work: Mill and overlay two (2) inches of asphalt in both lanes of I-41 in the project limits. Replace cable barrier and guardrail along I-41 mainline and ramps. Miscellaneous structure maintenance work. Miscellaneous culvert extension and slope flattening work. Replace existing box culvert to address flooding issue north of County Z.

September 22 to September 26: Culvert pipe and grading work will continue between County Z and WIS 26 at Plainview Drive. Median grading and outside shoulder grading work will continue from County D (Military Road) to County Z. Work will continue the new box culvert between WIS 26 to County Z. Work will continue for new culvert pipe installation on County N under I-41. Work will begin on permanent barrier installation on northbound and southbound I-41 between County OOO and WIS 23. Work will continue to place permanent pavement marking on northbound I-41 from County D to WIS 26.

September 29 to October 3: Culvert pipe and grading work will continue between County Z and WIS 26 at Plainview Drive. Median grading and outside shoulder grading work will continue from County D (Military Road) to County Z. Permanent pavement marking on northbound I-41 from County D to WIS 26. HMA paving between County D and WIS 26 both northbound and southbound.

Fond du Lac County Overnight Ramp Closures week of September 29

  • I-41/County N ramps – All northbound and southbound ramps closed during the following dates/times: Monday, September 29 through Wednesday, Oct. 1.
    • Northbound ramps closed: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Southbound ramps closed 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • I-41/County OO ramps – All northbound and southbound ramps closed during the following dates/times: Monday, September 29 through Wednesday, Oct. 1.
    • Northbound ramps closed: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Southbound ramps closed 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Work will be completed utilizing off-peak hour lane closures, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction in the work zone. Southbound traffic is shifted to the temporary outside widening from WIS 26 to County Z. Two lanes of traffic will continue to be maintained during peak hours.

Northbound traffic is shifted to the northbound outside shoulder of I-41 from WIS 26 to County Z. Two lanes of traffic will continue to be maintained during peak hours.

  • Plainview Drive will close between the intersections of Nekimi Ave and County Z on August 18 until late September 2025 for box culvert construction. No detour is posted for this closure.
