Lomira High School Wrestlers Walk 11 Miles for Veterans in “Change 4 Troops” Fundraiser
The Lomira High School wrestling team turned spare change into meaningful impact during their first-ever Change 4 Troops fundraiser, benefiting local veterans organizations. Over the past two weeks, wrestlers collected donations of coins from Lomira school district students, community members, and event supporters. On Sunday, November 9th, the team and their coaches walked those 171-pounds of coins 11 miles from the Byron Veterans Memorial, through Lomira, to the Theresa Veterans Memorial, finishing at the Theresa Town Hall where the American Legion hosted a breakfast for the Lomira-Theresa Legion Baseball program.
The cold, windy morning didn’t deter the wrestlers’ determination or the community’s encouragement. Drivers along the route honked, waved, and even stopped to hand over more donations. A major boost to the effort came from BalFab Services of Lomira, which contributed an incredible $1,000 in dimes and quarters, significantly increasing the total funds raised for area veterans’ causes.
Junior wrestler Cleary Twohig reflected on the experience, saying, “Walking those 11 miles was nothing compared to the sacrifices our veterans have made for our country. This was our way of showing respect and giving something back to the people who have given us so much.”
Head Coach Jamie Feucht expressed pride in his team’s dedication and heart. “Our wrestlers showed incredible toughness and character,” Feucht said. “They didn’t just walk for miles – they walked with purpose. I’m proud of how they represented Lomira High School, our program, and exemplified the gratitude we all have for our veterans.”
The $2,355.65 in funds will be donated to the Theresa American Legion Post and Byron Veterans Memorial. The Lomira Wrestling Team’s commitment to service has set a powerful tone for the season through character, community, and compassion. The Lomira boys and girls Wrestling Seasons formally begin in early December and run through early March.
