Wisconsin leads country in turning in unused prescription drugs
Wisconsin recently took part in the nationwide prescription drug take back day and The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced that Wisconsin ranked number one throughout the country for the most prescription medications collected during the event.
In total, Wisconsin collected 53,498 pounds of unwanted medications.
Since it’s start in 2010, Wisconsin has collected more than 1.4 million pounds of unwanted medications. Wisconsin now ranks third in the nation for the most medications collected since inception, behind Texas and California.
The DEA leads two Drug Take Back days a year, one in the spring and one in the fall.
While Drug Take Back Day only happens twice a year, you can turn in unused prescription drugs any day at many police department lobbies who have drug disposal boxes.
