Family of eight displaced after fire destroys Calumet County home

On Saturday morning, February 14, 2026, the Chilton Fire Department responded to a house fire at W2316 Hickory Hills Road, about two miles north of Chilton. The call came in around 5:30 a.m. with reports that a family of eight was attempting to escape the home.

Upon arrival , fire fighters were faced with heavy smoke pushing from the home with visible fire on the first floor. Because of the extent of the fire, the call was upgraded to a MABAS call, bringing in mutual aid from other fire departments.

Firefighters attempted an interior attack at first, but backed out due to the first floor being burned through from fire in the basement.

Crews eventually were able to enter the second floor later in the operation to stop the fire from getting to the attic.

Multiple ambulances were called to the scene due to the occupants that escaped suffering from smoke inhalation. All were transported to a local hospital by ambulance where they were treated and released.

One firefighter that received minor injuries at the fire scene was also treated and released.

The fire department says the home suffered extensive fire, smoke and water damage, with the family losing all of their belongings.
