Administrative secure and hold at Rosendale Elementary School after ammunition found
The following is a letter sent to parents of students at Laconia Elementary School in Rosendale on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Dear Rosendale-Brandon School Families,
The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our highest priorities. I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred today and the immediate steps we took to ensure a secure environment.
Earlier today, a student discovered live ammunition in a school bathroom. I am incredibly proud of this student, who immediately notified a staff member. This responsible action allowed our team to respond swiftly and effectively.
Upon discovery, we instituted an administrative secure and hold. This protocol limited student movement, requiring staff escorts for any students outside of their classrooms. During this time, our administration and the School Resource Deputy thoroughly reviewed video surveillance and conducted interviews, including conversations with a number of second, third and fifth-grade students.
To further ensure the safety of our building, specialized K9 units capable of detecting gunpowder residue were brought in to sweep the premises. At this time, no source of the ammunition has been identified, and the matter remains under active investigation.
To provide an extra layer of security and peace of mind, there will be an increased police presence on campus for the remainder of today and throughout tomorrow.
We take this matter very seriously. We encourage you to talk to your children tonight; if they have any information that might assist our investigation, please contact Mrs. Owens 920-872-2151 or owenhei@rbsd.k12.wi.us to provide those details. Additionally, our school counselors are available should your child feel anxious or wish to speak with someone about today’s events.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.
Sincerely,
Wayne Weber
Superintendent
