BREAKING: Diener Named Athletic Director and Boys Basketball Coach at Fond du Lac
Fond du Lac — KFIZ Sports Director Chuck Freimund has learned that the Fond du Lac School District will hire Marian University men’s basketball coach Drake Diener as its new Athletic Director and Boys Basketball Head Coach at Fond du Lac High School.
Diener is a 2001 graduate of Goodrich High School and went on to play Division I college basketball at DePaul University. During his career with the Blue Demons, Diener became the program’s all‑time leading three‑point scorer and recorded the highest career free‑throw percentage in school history, accomplishments that earned him a place in the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame.
After completing his college career, Diener went on to play professional basketball overseas before returning to Fond du Lac in May of 2018. At that time, he was named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Marian University, where he successfully turned the program around. His tenure included multiple competitive seasons and a runner‑up finish in this year’s conference tournament.
Diener will now follow in the footsteps of his father, Dick Diener, as he takes on the responsibility of leading the Fond du Lac basketball program.
Current Athletic Director Kevin Flegner will be retiring this fall.
