Memorial Day Holiday brings parade and ceremonies to area
Next Monday, May 25, 2026, is Memorial Day and the area has a few things going on as part of the holiday.
The annual Memorial Day Parade will take place in Downtown Fond du Lac at 10 a.m. The parade starts at the intersection of Main and Rees Streets and heads south to the newly renovated Veterans Park at the corner of Main and 2nd street. There, a ceremony will take place to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms. Veterans Park will have a ribbon cutting celebrating its reopening this Friday, May 22 at 10 a.m.
The Town of Byron veterans will once again be honored at the annual Memorial Day tribute at the Byron Town Hall and Veterans Memorial. Doors to the hall will be open from 8 am to 11 a.m. Monday for an open house featuring military and historical exhibits. The outdoor program begins at 9:30 am.
American Legion Post #347 of Lomira and VFW Post 8092 of Oakfield will conduct a color guard/rifle squad salute and a roll call of the 116 veterans laid to rest at Bethel, Byron, and St. John’s cemeteries in the Town of Byron. The outdoor portion of the program will end with “Taps” and a bagpipe reflection performed by Dr. Joseph Haak.
The Byron Town Hall and Veterans Memorial is located at N3097 Highway 175 in Byron.
And the City of Fond du Lac has announced it’s hours for the Memorial Day Weekend.
City offices in the City/County Government Center will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
The Municipal Service Center will also be closed on May 25 for all services, including garbage and recycling collection and bulky waste drop off. There will be no garbage and recycling collection on Monday, May 25. Garbage normally collected on Monday will be collected on Tuesday, May 26 with the normal Tuesday collection. It’s asked that you have your garbage set out by 5:00 am on Tuesday to accommodate the additional collections.
Recycling collection, performed by Waste Management, will have a one-day service delay throughout the remainder of week.
City Transit buses will not operate on May 25, but will resume regular routes on Tuesday, May 26.
The Senior Center will be closed on May 25 and reopen May 26.
And the Fond du Lac Public Library will be closed beginning Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25, and will reopen on Tuesday, May 26.
