Suspected intoxicated North Fond du Lac man leads law enforcement on slow speed chase

On Sunday, August 9, 2026, at approximately 3:52 a.m., a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 41 near Sales Road in the Town of Eldorado. The deputy observed the vehicle traveling below the posted 70 mph speed limit, weaving between both southbound lanes and traveling off the roadway.

The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle for the observed moving violations. The driver failed to yield and continued southbound at a speed below the posted limit.

The driver eventually pulled over on Interstate 41 and stopped briefly before driving away southbound on I-41 at approximately 40 mph.

The vehicle exited onto Winnebago Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of the off-ramp. The driver then turned eastbound onto Winnebago Street toward the Village of North Fond du Lac.

A deputy successfully performed a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver, bringing the pursuit to an end on Winnebago Street near N Pioneer Road. The driver was taken into custody without further incident. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Both the suspect vehicle and squad car sustained minor damage. The pursuit covered approximately three miles.

The driver, a 33-year-old North Fond du Lac man, is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a warrant out of Winnebago County. He is facing a felony charge of fleeing/eluding, suspicion of operating while intoxicated, and additional traffic citations.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the North Fond du Lac Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
