Fond du Lac woman recognized for her recovery journey
A Fond du Lac woman is being recognized for the progress she’s made in recovery and her efforts to give back to the community that supported her.
Brenda Kumbier, who lives at ARYA Women’s Recovery Housing in Fond du Lac, has received the Wisconsin Department of Corrections’ 180 Award.
Kumbier began her recovery journey through treatment at ARC Treatment Facility before moving into sober living at ARYA, where she’s continued working toward stability and independence.
She’s now working full time at Panera Bread, where she was promoted to lead worker. She’s also become involved in the We EmpowHer program and volunteers with Hope on the Block.
Kumbier says having a stable home, employment and support from the Fond du Lac community have all played important roles in her recovery. She’s also shared her experiences with women at Beacon Treatment Facility in hopes of encouraging others who are working toward recovery themselves.
ARYA says the recognition highlights the importance of recovery housing and community support in helping women rebuild their lives.
Kumbier recently passed her one-year anniversary living at ARYA.
