Multiple people displaced as faulty construction project allows Fond du Lac apartment building to flood

A City of Fond du Lac apartment building had to be evacuated Wednesday night, October 28, 2026, after water began seeping through the entire building.

At around 11:20 p.m., calls started coming into the Fond du Lac County Communications Center advising the building at 92 Forest Avenue was flooding and water was coming through light fixtures.

The first officer on the scene found water in the first floor hallway.

Upon investigation, it was found that work had been down to the roof area and the repair wasn’t patched properly. A passing rainstorm dumped about a quarter inch of rain in 15 minutes and that rain water dumped into the three story building soaking it all the way to the ground level.

Firefighters helped evacuate the building and assisted Alliant gas and electric as they assessed the damage to the building.

A total of eight apartments were deemed uninhabitable, resulting in eight occupants needing to be relocated, along with three cats and two dogs. Red Cross and the County Emergency Manager were notified to support sheltering needs, and all residents ultimately secured temporary accommodations on their own. No injuries were reported. The scene was turned over to building maintenance, and the building inspector will follow up with the property owner.
