Lomira Advanced to Level 3 Plus Area Playoff Scores
Another dominant rushing performance from Hunter Schaumberg propelled Lomira to a 21-6 victory over Cambridge on Friday night in Level 2 of the WIAA Football Playoffs.
Schaumberg eclipsed the 200-yard rushing mark once again and accounted for all four of Lomira’s touchdowns in a standout performance. The senior running back consistently moved the chains and provided the offensive spark the Lions needed to advance to the third round of the postseason.
Lomira’s defense also played a pivotal role in the win, forcing three Cambridge turnovers. The Lions capitalized on the miscues, turning a pair of the interceptions into touchdowns and taking control of the game.
Cambridge managed its lone touchdown of the night but struggled to overcome the turnovers and Lomira’s physical rushing attack. The Lions’ defense limited big plays throughout the contest and kept pressure on the Blue Jays’ offense.
With the victory, Lomira advances to Level 3 of the WIAA Football Playoffs and will hit the road next week to face top-seeded Edgar. The Wildcats earned their spot in the third round with a convincing 56-18 victory over Pardeeville on Friday night.
Lomira will look to continue its playoff run behind the hard-running Schaumberg and a defense that has proven capable of creating game-changing turnovers as the Lions prepare for a challenging matchup against the state’s No. 1 seed.
