Camp Byron memories to be featured at Byron Historical Society annual open house and Veterans Day observance
The Byron Historical Society Annual Open House and Veterans Remembrance is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, from 10:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. The Veterans Day Remembrance by Lomira’s Bintzler-Waehler Post No. 347 and Oakfield VFW Post No. 8092 will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by the announcement of the winner of our 3nd annual Veterans Day Essay Contest.
This annual event at the Byron Town Hall will showcase the Byron Historical Society’s 2027 calendar, Camp Byron Memories. The calendar highlights the remarkable 161 years of Camp Byron Methodist Church camp, a landmark in the Town of Byron known for its picturesque beauty. From its founding in 1848, the site drew thousands of visitors for the annual camp meeting and other countless gatherings. Prior to its closing in 2009, Camp Byron was known as the oldest Methodist Church camp still in use in the nation.
The calendar theme will be carried out with exhibits featuring Camp Byron memorabilia and additional exhibits will feature military artifacts from our collection, along with our Veterans Photo Wall. This special event is free and open to the public at the Byron Town Hall, located at N3097 Highway 175 in Byron.
